THE AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU MUSEUM & MEMORIAL SITE
The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum was established in 1947 to serve as a reminder of the tragic fate of the inmates of the former Nazi death camp and to warn of the atrocities of war.
The museum's total area is 191 hectares. At the site, you can see the remains of buildings used by the Nazis to exterminate the people transported there (including gas chambers, crematoria), as well as a rail loading dock and a fence.
The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum has recreated the conditions in which prisoners lived and worked to demonstrate to visitors the cruel fate they suffered when they first arrived at the concentration camp. The sightseeing route leads through housing and sanitary barracks, to name a few.
Admission to the Museum is free, but it is recommended to make a reservation. It is a place crowded with tourists from Poland and all over the world, so it is better to make sure you can visit it on a given day. Each guest is given a named admission card. It is worthwhile to use a guide (paid service, available in different time options).
